My first real reel to reel

Ok, so a while ago I asked you all about the Teac A-6010. Well I finally have some pictures for you. And along with those pics I have some questions.

With no tape on it, the transport seems to work fine. If I tell it to fast forward the take up reel's post spins quickly. In fast rewind, same thing for the "feeder reel" (IDK whatelse to call it.) Anyway. Everything works. Well. I put tape on it, and no dice. I've tried both mil settings to see if that worked. Nothing. So I'm guessing it's the tape. I don't even know what tape it is, the dude gave it to me. Anyway, what do you all think I should do? Well, here are the pics.

It seems to be in pretty good condition, but it's not withouth its dings. (PS I know it's not perfect as a mixdown deck. But for $25 I figured it would be worth the experiment. Plus I figure I could part it out if I needed to and probably make a small profit.)

Hey Nate, not bad for the money. I was thinking the capstan belt might be bad. Is the transports clean? Do you have access to good tape? Good luck.
 
FYI, the "feeder" reel is commonly known as the supply reel. :)

I hesitate to ask you this, but are you certain you threaded the tape correctly? It's like the first question phone service techs always ask: "Please make sure the computer is plugged in..." :o
 
I love sharing the story of the time I wasted hours trying to figure out why my tractor wouldn't start...had the top end of the motor half torn apart...finally figured out I'd forgetten to switch open the fuel valve from the tank.

NEVER underestimate your ability...oh wait...I already have that below...

No, I'm not certain that I have the tape threaded right. I believe that I do, but I'm not sure.

It will rewind just fine. But any forward motion is stopped because the take up reel does not take up releasing the tension on the tension arm. Thanks for the responses. How do the heads look? I'm still learning. so be patient with me.
