NYC HIP-HOP AMBASSADOR
Wsup Guys,

I've been around for a little while but I've never actually posted any of my work before.. Please take a listen to one of the latest songs I've recorded by my favorite rap artist (and brother) Gab Gacha... let me know what you think. This song is a kind of a laid back summer time'ish hip-hop track.

Thanks!
-Steve.

PS: Please be gentle! lol :o

We Made It

sweeeeeeeet. I don't mix hiphop or rap so i can't really help you much sorry. Really like the tune though.

Actully i really like it :D nice one!

So ummmmm... I guess noone around here likes hip-hop tracks??? ::sigh::

Well, I'm not so big fan of hiphop, but really got nothing against it either :).

But, I know when stuff is finished and working and this piece has nailed them both ;).

IMO all done here. Allthou to hear the mix better we could definitely use 256kbps mp3..

Overall good job bro! :p

so thats a blue mic trough an avalon preamp, right?
sounds clean man, i expected a more underground-dirty sound,
true, a laid back summertune,
its cool man, its got a chorus and everything :D
you found a nice rapper and the rapper found a nice recorder :)

good work, can't say real bad things on this tune, just maybe a little change in the music would be nice, like adding a real break, or just an extra melody somewhere, but hell, its better than the hiphop i recorded recently ;)

Nice track. I would suggest panning the lead vox more to center and layering the doubling vox to the sides. Also eq the layered vox a little different to create a little separation between them.

I agree that a more down and dirty break would be nice, breaking out of rhythm for a moment.

Hi Earworm.. thanks for the feedback first of all! And actually that song was recorded on the Focusrite Voicemaster pro.. right before I bought the Avalon. I actually like it's flavor alot... If I could afford to keep both I would.

As far as the music is concerned, as with most (not all) hip-hop tracks, it consists of mostly synthesized sounds(drums, bass, etc) and then the main sample track behind it. So there's not too much changing up that can really happen besides dropping a track or two for drops and choruses which I tried to do as much as possible wherever I saw fit.

lol.. and what do you mean it's got a chorus and everything?!

I don't understand the thing about panning the lead vocals to the center though.. I never pan the main vocals.. do they sound off-center to you?

As for the backing vocals, I usually pan those when I have more than 1 backup vocal track (mostly for choruses).. but in this case I only have one backup track and one adlib track so I kept those dead center. I'm pretty sure I actually panned the chorus that way on this song though.

I agree about the EQ though.. I don't think I eq'd the supporting vocals differently than the main.

Thanks again!

Hi

The main and backing vocal are panned to the left, about 10 O'clock. If you didn't pan it, something in the chain did it. Use headphones to check that.

Note: Very good song, well recorded and mixed.
