This is my first actual mix attempt. The recording itself isn't that great, as I did everything in pretty much one take, and my recording gear (or lack thereof) sucks...

I don't have any microphones as of yet, but I'll be getting one soon, so everything was recorded direct, with no direct box or anything.

I had to use a software bass/drum machine because I don't have a mic, a drumset, or a bass guitar :D But it's me playing the rhythm guitar and lead.

To make things worse, I was missing the high E string on my electric guitar, so I had to make up my own solos (couldn't play the actual solo in the song without it).

Here's a sum up of the equipment I used...

For acoustic guitar:

Acoustic -> 1/4" cable -> 1/4" to 1/8" converter -> SoundBlaster Sound Card

For electric guitar:

Electric -> Fender G-Dec Amp (Phones output) -> 1/4" cable -> 1/4" to 1/8" converter -> SoundBlaster Sound Card

To sum it up, my current setup is about as bad as you can get. Even my guitars and amp sucks. Anyway, tell me what you think, and try not to bash me too hard. ;)

P.S. I'm not trying to make a professional recording or anything, but I'm sure that will be obvious when you hear it.

Btw, the song is Knocking On Heaven's Door, in the style of Guns N' Roses, but I changed it quite a bit so it's kind of a mix between their version and my own. Anyway, tell me what you think.

First, unless there's a specific question you have, this should be posted in the MP3 clinic. :)

So, yes...it's a long road ahead, but sit back, enjoy the ride, and keep working at it. I think your headed in the right direction. ;)

Oops, didn't even notice the "MP3 Clinic".

Sorry about that...

I was just wanting some opinions on how the mix itself sounded...

Were the drums/bass too loud, was the panning of the guitars okay, did anything stand out too much in the mix? etc...

Anyways, thanks for the reply. Maybe I should post it in the "MP3 Clinic" forum?

yeah, you'll get more responses there. People that go in that forum go for the reason of listening and critiquing the mix or whatever specific thing you ask about.

Well its not the place but still i will write my comment :)

I think that guitars sounds quite good,at least for how you recorded them!
but didnt like the paning, i think that the acoustic that is the main of the song should be in the center, and the solo maybe can be panned a bit.
Also i think you really should make the drums louder, you should be able to hear the snar nice, and loud enough (that my opinion at least)

Good luck with it :)
