Sometimes, these old school bumps seem like an old leisure suit you find. You laugh. Then, you realize it's your own leisure suit that you wore back in the day. :)

It gets even worse when you try it on. Then, you wonder what kind of drugs were you taking back then.

Leisure suits are cool.

I don't know what you have against them.

Companies I like:
Neumann
Studer (2" 24 track)
Cranesong
Geffelle
SSL
Neve
MCI (JH24 2" 24 track) used
Avalon
other high end snobby equipment.

Companies I don't like:
Behringer
Soundcraft
TASCAM
FOSTEX
Studio Projects
AKG
AT
Pro-tools anything
Neuendo anything (all DAW software)
Oktava
Most crappy pro-sumer equipment and generally any mic, pre-amp or mixer under $100, 200, 300, 400 and even more.
Computers under $1500 and not bought in a boutique shop.

The best stuff always comes from the small boutique shops where they would spit on anything that does not go for 10 times the price of the exact same thing made by big corporations. I just love forking over all my $$$ to these guys as I can leave their shop with fists full of high-end snob gear. I always hear a big, big difference in my monster cables and pre-amps/mics/etc. instantly upon connection.

Frikk'in gear snob I am living in total poverty lusting for more rack shit or worse.

I love it.

Blimey, another relic. Ok, let's take a shot:

- Yamaha. Do they make a bad product? I mean, out of all their products? Have any of you had problems with their motorbikes? Took one steady shot and blew Behringer out of the budget mixer barket. Also, kudos for buying Steinberg. Should give them the clout to really get that company back on software rather than worrying about piracy.
- Dell. Yeah, not strictly audio, but the quality of the PC I just bought and the service I got over the phone from them was spot on.
- M-Audio. Just really good value stuff. Every hobbyist in the world can afford an Audiophile and an Oxygen 8 and get straight on with making their music. Don't rip of Brits on a ridiculous UK markup.
- PMI. You know where I stand on this. Good products, good prices, good support. Whether or not you like the personalities is frankly irrelevant. Also (along with M-Audio), one of the few companies to employ fair UK pricing.
- Sony. Again, do they make a bad product? Vegas is superb. Their headphones sound great. Everything from the huge Pro Tools desks down to the portable minidiscs. Class.

Companies I don't like:
- Yamaha. Yeah ... I know what I said. I had a guitar on order with them for EIGHT MONTHS recently and they kept sending me the wrong one. It was a birthday present for my kid brother and ended up being an early next birthday present!
- Behringer. Good value products if they serve your purpose but god help you if you need their support.
- Mackie. Some of their stuff is overpriced (VLZs) ... some is really good value (HR824s are still competitive). You never know where you stand with them as a brand.

Anyway, I don't reckon I've been too controversial there. :)

I am interested in parametric EQ's right now, and had heard that Symetrix made some decent ones. Are the old/used ones better there as well?
If you have more info (product-wise) on this subject, Chessrock, I'd listen.

I have an Orban 642B parametric and I am very pleased with how it sounds. I used to have a 622B, but the 642B definitely sounds much better to me. The 642B also costs a lot more, but you do get what you pay for in this case.

Another interesting vintage eq is the Urei 546. I modded mine a while back, but even in it's original state it had a nice sound. Actually, the mod I had done simply made it more clean. The tone on the original had a bit more character. Sometimes I wish I had left it alone.

I agree with everything on your list except for maybe StudioProjects... I think their mics are too bright. Tech21 on the other hand, is the shit in everything they do.
