Hehe....I joined a country/rock cover band recently.

I replaced the drummer in an already working band, so it's a new thing for me, but not a totally new band. We did our first gig last week end and we're booked for the rest of the year already.

So anyway, we recorded a demo in my home studio this week, to send out to festival organizers, club owners, etc....

This is the first time I record anyone other than myself, so it was a cool learning experience at the same time.

Here's our cover of The Black Crowes' "HARD TO HANDLE". I'm singing and playing drums on this.

For something a little more country, here's our cover of Keith Urban's YOU LOOK GOOD IN MY SHIRT. I'm only drumming on this. Jed McCoy, the bass player, is singing.

And for something even more country, here's our cover of Marty Stewart's TEMPTED. I'm only drumming on this. Jed McCoy, the bass player, is singing.

I know we usually don't like people posting multiple tunes, but this isn't worth starting a new thread for every tune. So, just pick one and tell me what you think. :)

Yee Haw!!!!

You crazy, rootin-tootin, bastard! :D

I always wondered why you don't play in a band. I never figured you'd go country. :D

Sounds good. Those other guys sound like they know what they're doing. The mixes sound fine. Could maybe use more kick or less bass in "Hard to Handle". I love the drums in "Tempted". Kick ass job. Those fuckers lucked out to get you.

Thanx, Greg. Yeah, I think the bass might be a little loud on all the tunes. I might get around to re-mixing them one day, but it's good enough for a demo of what we do.

I played in clubs for years and years, so it took a band that was steadily working, not travelling all the time, paid well, and easy to work with for me to get back into it. That's hard to find, but these guys are really cool.

Thanx duder.

Hi, Rami!

Too time without posting and listening your songs and...sorry, exactly now I´m far from any decent monitoring, but couldn´t resist:
niiiiiiice!
I don´t know the Black Crowes, but your vocal is amazing!(I won´t comment about bass or drums ´cause I´m not listening nothing below 300hz with this ultra tinny system:(:D)

Excellent band, love the second song too.

Tomorrow I´ll listen properly.

Congrats, buddy...
...waiting for the Brazilian Tour 2009 :)

Thanx alot CIRO!!!! Nice to hear from you again. I hope you're doing well.

HAHA! I wish! :)

I ain't laughing, this sounds good. totally diggin the bass tone. Nice and full.

I always wondered if you were gigging. Are you gonna try to do some of your originals?

peace.

See, a good musician is comfortable no matter what the genre! I am with Greg, I never figured you for country. Your originals are nothing close to that!

Nice to hear that you are gigging again and loving it. Rock on, err, you know what I mean! :D

the arrangment is karaoke, but the vocals are serious! :D nice on them (hard to handle) - and i miss the "lightchacandle" instead of "light your candle" but cool, doesnt have to be the same its a cover

RAMI,
Nice to know you've a gig to burn some of your hyperactivity.
Hard 2 handle - it's def a countrified take - just enough to suit the audience - I suppose that'd countrifried!
My Shirt - yeah - a little balancing between the bass & bass drum needed. The Oz Nashville is Tamworth - that's where Keith became a name - this coming weekend is our national day long weekend AND the Tamworth Australian Country Music Awards weekend.
Tempted - This is very Nick Lowe - he'd be a good source for alt country to differentiate your band. Good capture.
You folk do know that Elvis Costello's 1st album (produced by Lowe) was recorded using the US country band Clover (used to have Huey Lewis on vox) - doesn't sound like it until you listen closely.

Thanx Chili. I'd love to do some originals live, but I can't see that happening with this band. Maybe one day.

Thanx dude. It is cool to be playing live again, I missed it. I'm not country at all. I never even heard most of the tunes we're playing until I had to learn them. :D
the arrangment is karaoke,
I have no idea what that means. Thanx for the listen. :)

Yo Ray. Thanx man. I find a lot of this "New Country" pretty much re-cycled 80's rock, so we don't really have to countrify anything too much. We actually do quite a bit of rock in our set, and a lot of Southern rock.

Tomorrow I´ll listen properly.

And here I am...

Great sound recordings, Rami!

Altough all the songs sounds amazing, my favorite (overall balance)is You Look Good In My Shirt...I compared it with another song -Where the sun don´n shine, which has a pretty well balanced frequency and nice lows- I like the guitars too (miked or preamp/direct?).Congrats to the guys, sounds fine.

Tempted sounds good too;BD and snare starting at 01:30 a bit loud.

Hard to Handle sounds well too- and clean-Interesting to listen your voice with less reverb-killer performance as usual;)
Bass and drums sounds good -just "a bit" over in the 50/60 range.

Great job- playing and engineering.
*Just curious, the voices are compressed before mixing?

Since the only song I know from the 3 is Hard to handle, and I happen to play that one with my cover band, I enjoyed it the most.

Nice clean vocals, wish my vocalist could pronounce like you:o; oh well, what do you know, we're latin:D

I found the guitar part really well executed, but lacking. I don't know what, but I guess it's the tone?!, or maybe too mellow for my tastes!

Drums were right on, both sound and performancewise. Do you still record with 4 mics?

Great recordings as usual Rami!

Cheers!

Hey thanx for taking another listen, CIRO. You maybe right about the low end. Like I said, I think the bass is a little loud in all the tunes, and I didn't spend an eternity mixing this, like I would with my originals.

The vocals go through my FOCUSRITE pre-amp for tracking, but I bypass the compressor.

Thanx buddy.

Nico, I appreciate your comments. I agree with you about the guitar in general. He insisted on taking a direct out from his amp. I didn't argue very much. I much prefer a mic.

I actually only used 3 mics for the drums; 2 overheads and a kik.

Thanx dude!

I checked out all 3. They sound great! I agree that they're lucky to have you in the band. What were they doing for recording (if anything) before you joined. These sound better than demo level--I'd hire you in a second.

Thanx alot, Whitey.

They didn't do any recording before. We probably won't do much besides this demo, either. We're just using this to give to club owners, etc....I laid my tracks down alone. Then they came over and laid theirs down in one night. I mixed everything by myself the day after.

Thanx again, bro. (I must spread some reputation before giving it to Whitestrat)

Heck, I grew up listening to Alice Cooper, Charlie Pride, Zep, Merle Haggard. So its all good to me. Great tunes. But !!!! Your gonna have to come up with a country stage name. Take your Bass players name "Jed McCoy", thats a country name !!!! Anyone have any suggestions ?

I can really see Rami as a "Jesse", kind of like Jesse James.:)

Actually, like WHOAMI says above, my country name in the band is Jesse McCoy. We're all McCoys. Jed McCoy (bass), Clem McCoy (guitar), and Jesse McCoy (me)!!!!

It's a lot of fun!!!!! www.thecountymen.com (That's me on the left, looking a little out of place with a cowboy hat) :D

That is so cool. Could be a ZZ Top tribute band too. One gig "The Countryman". The next put on fake beards (except you of course).

I chose "Tempted". Catchy tune, uh? I like the way it sounds now, maybe bring up the bass a little to make it punchier. Just that thing, rest is fine, especially the harmony between guitars.
