Lost Cause
Yep, here's my first attempt at recording / mixing. The VF80 / n-Track way (or indeed any way, in my case).

The song is the second of the three, Change Your Mind Back (the other two on our page were recorded months ago by somebody else).

Some people were kind enough to comment on the earlier version of this in the clinic, but it has been uptempoed, new guitar etc., and of course this time the mix and recording are my fault.

If anybody could help with the little glitch at around 9 seconds, which doesn't appear when I play back the multi track in n-Track, I'd be particularly grateful, but aside from that there's plenty of scope to sugest improvements:)

Thanks in advance to anybody taking the time to listen.

Garry

Garry,
I liked the song, and considering this is your first recording, you did a good job. Keep on posting, I'm looking forward to hearing more of your work. :)

Sounds good Garry. On my computer there is a lot of highs. Could just be my computer speakers?

Gospel - no, it's my crap mixing. It's also 'coz our BNG (brilliant new guitarist) likes to play fancy lead and not rhythm and I'm coming to the conclusion that there's something missing in the middle. Raises the whole issue of how you make a vox/drum/guitar/bass combo work, which we are still figuring out.

Thanks to you and morindae for listening.

Gary my friend, this would get much more exposure if you posted it in the MP3 clicnic. Not busting your chops.
Yeah, lots of high end in the mix and it sounds scooped in the middle. I don't think it's your guitar. The drums are buried and the vocal seems way to forward in the mix. What do you monitor through when you mix?

:D A very good first effort G, was there a punch in on any track at the 9sec mark?

 What was the mix down medium?

Track Rat

Drums were mixed down after I played the CD on my hifi and they seemed too prominent. Definitely wanted the vocal forward, but have overdone it. Apart from that, the vocal and bass sounds are the two things I'm not too unhappy with. Monitored on Alesis Active Mk2's

Problem with the scooped middle is that there's nothing there. Thinking about male vocal harmonies to sit there.

Not posted in the clinic 'coz I'm frightened of the quality over there:)

Muttley

No punch in. Can't figure it out.

Mixed with n-Track on the PC

Thanks guys

she's got a great voice, Gary. You really oughta post in the clinic. There are some great ears over there that can give great advice.

I took your advice - put it in the clinic - took their advice - result: much better mix now up on nowhereradio:)

Thanks guys
