I've been using my presonus bluemax to compress overheads and it seems to make my drums quieter...the level on the meter LOOKS the same but it just SOUNDS quieter...i've tried this on vocals too..whats goin on here???

Also i was running a recording i did last week through T-Racks and I put it up against "bad motor finger" by "soundgarden" and the soundgarden album seems WAY LOUDER even without clipping, and my recording was..

am i going crazy, or is there an explanation?

Compression or limiting does make the original track quieter. That is how it squeezes the dynamic range. There is usually an automatic or manual Makeup Gain setting to bring the volume back up.

adolescents, this isn't exactly a big reply to your problem or anything, but I just wanted to state......

if you are using T-Racks, ALWAYS (and I mean it) keep the overload on the limiter at its highest (+5.3). This will gain some extra dBs in some cases.

course, I wouldn't use T-Racks in the first place, but if you have it already, might as well make it work for you.
