A little more info would help (I hate to be giving advice that might just be irrelevant).
1)What's the brand?
2)What are the pickups/configuration (how many, what type/size)?
3)How does it sound live? How does it sound unplugged (unamplified)?
4)How do you record it (straight into the machine or through a DI or a preamp or what?).
5)Do you change your strings often?
6)Is the instrument setup properly (intonation, action, pickup height, etc.)?
7)What is the neck joint (bolt-on, set[glued in] or neck-through-body)? If bolt-on - is the joint tight?

Don't panick, there might be a few inexpensive ways to deal with it! :)

Peace.

like I said, I got this piece o' crap bass. I can't afford a good one, so is there anything I can do to make this one sound good? It always gets lost in the mix, but if I bring it up all I get is the attack cuz the sustain is practically non-exsistant. Would eq-ing it help? If so, what would it look like? If there's no hope for my bass, let me know so I can add it to my infinite list of good equiptment I can't afford. we out.
