My basement studio progress so far...

6 months since we moved into our new house, after some slow going getting the basement gutted, we have done waterproofing, framing, electrical, wired for XLR and headphones, soundboard, sheetrock, mud, tape, and even some paint...
still to go: more paint, carpet, trim, soldering audio plates, making great music.. I'll post more as we get more done, I just always like the "during" photos... so here's mine:

Hmmm. Looks like you didnt use treated 2x4 for your base plate. Im gonna have to call your local inspector !!! Looks good. I had to use treated on base plate (building codes). But if you ever have moisture a treated base plate will protect the walls. But if you have a flood it wont help. You wet sanding or dry sanding? Those 3M abrasive sponges are fantastic for either. I bought some to try and I couldnt believe how well they work.

I'd put the vocal booth on the other end. And probably not go so symetrical on the layouts.

actually we did use treated 2x4s for the floor...
and I went with a less drastic layout design so that when we sell the house it can pass as a rec room, a bedroom, a closet, etc....
Wish I had thought to build the speakers into the angled corners though, that woulda been a cool idea.

oh, and we have been dry sanding with those 3m blocks, it works ok, 2nd coat of mud helped a lot...
and we're using this behr paint with texture in it to save the step of texturing before painting. so far its working out pretty well.

also, the layout was partially determined by the huge vertical support beams, and HVAC locations, since it is a basement. thats why the mixing room has to cut into the live room so much, there's a big beam inside that angled corner.

Second? Dude your supposed to do at least three. First fill the cracks, then tape on top of the fill. Then a cover coat on the tape. Then a smoothing coat, then a skimming coat.

It takes a lot of time, but the end result is way better and you won't see the tape at all.

I need to post pics my construction phase. Like to killed me. I can relate to all that need to be done. And its the finish work that takes the longest. I had the inspector from hell also

didnt have the patience for 3 coats, the seams are slightly visible through the texture in a few spots, and I may re-do them at some point,
but this last week we got paint up, electric finished off, and flooring in...
we've been moving in gear and getting ready to track, to day I soldered the wall plates for the XLR jacks, 16 lines form the live room to the control room, 2 from the vocal booth, took almost 4 hours of soldering, I did one plate of 6 connections, then tested it to find that they were all wired backwards... grrrrrrr.... had to redo it all. But all the channels are working great now, and wall plates make it look so darn classy.
Will have new pics once its a bit more organized, right now it looks like a pile of guitars near a pile of amps, near some drums that arent setup... next to some xlr wall plates.

Oh man that sucks. I have had a lot of those moments recently. Yesterday I was installing mt coax/cat5/phone line wall plate (without a box) and I made the hole too big by accident. Now I have to offset it from the electrical wall plate 2 inches away. It looks like crap. But at least that was the home office room, and NOT my studio. I put that one up perfectly.

All I have left in my studio is to put in the doors, trim, and then build some kind of console and treat the room. Sounds like a lot, but compared to what it was 3 weeks ago I call it nearly finished.

You have a Gibson Corvus !!!!!!! I had one back when I was 21 (24 years ago). The only Gibson I ever liked. So damn ugly it was pretty. I keep looking for one at pawn shops or ebay.
