What's their deal exactly? All their mics are cheaply priced but (especially their 603's) I hear a lot of good things about them for their price. I have a MXL 2001 and used it on vocal recordings and was pleasantly surprised with how great (yet somewhat bright) it sounded for its price.

Just wondering other peoples opinions on them overall.

Generally good for the price. Although if you get serious about recording and have the money, you will eventually replace them with better mics.

From what the specs look like, it appears to be a 2001 in a silver body with a -10dB pad and a high pass filter.

With the reputation of the 2001, you would probably find something better in that price range. Look at the CAD GLX3000. It might be a better sounding mic with the same features.

Yeah, I read that part, AND I do have the money, but replace ALL OF THEM? I really like many of them and they get used around here a lot, even with far more expensive mics available.

I still like and use the V67, V77, V69ME, the 960, and the 603's and 604's (even more these days, now that they have the omni capsules as options).

I love my V77 and my pair of 603s. They're excellent mics, regardless of the price. I've yet to find something that the V77 doesn't do excellently. the 603's have a bump in their high end which can add sparkle to some sources--it can also make some sources sound strident or harsh/abrasive. one could go a long way with a pair of 603s and a pair of mk012's.

i also have a V67 that i have mixed feelings about. it sounds great on some things--snare, overheads, some vocalists, but really bites on others (acoustic guitar). there's something about the midrange that's cloudy or grainy that i'm not overly thrilled with, but it sometimes helps singers that could use a little "masking". it's NOT got that high frequency boost that a lot of chinese mics have, which is a welcome change. overall i like the "sound/tone" of this mic--i just wish it were a little cleaner.

one of the neat things about the V67 is the gold grille--for some reason, i've had a number of people remark about that mic with comments like "i bet that cost a lot" and "i want to sing through the gold mic". i'm certainly not going to discourage their enthusiasm--if they're all excited about a mic, it may mean they're going to give a better performance.

i'm in the market for a V69, but it seems i've missed on the one that kidvybes was selling. bad timing.

Point noted. I do recollect that you have and use lots of them. Actually, now that I think about it, I do still have one -- a black V67 that I bought for a song when Mars Music unloaded its inventory. It's still useful enough that I haven't sold it off, even though I have lots of other mics.

a V69 for $75?!? wow. i missed that one too. normally those things go for a minimum of $150. that's a great score.

i am astounded by the sheer number of models that they've come out with in a period of what-- maybe 7-8 years? they have some european only models (e.g. v12) and some guitar center-only models (the cube and others i believe). has any other mic company done something comparable in a similar period of time?
