I have a pair of 993s that I use for micing my acoustic guitar. I'm happy with them, but I'm no expert on mics. Although they're not generally recommended for vocal work I have used them for voice and they are not horrible.
If you'll refer to the microphone FAQ sticky post above, you will find some informed opinions.
Or do an ebay search for "mxl 604", which is the same mic but with an interchangeable omni capsule and a 10 db pad. They don't come with the shockmounts though.
