MXL 990 and 991

If they did what I think they did, MXL is brilliant. Did they use the same diaphragm from the 603s and stick it in the 990? I must say its pretty cool lookin. Although I don't think it sounds as good as the 603. It lacks some of the clarity that the 603 has. PRobably because I'd assume it has different electronics in it. And I'm sure the 991 is the same as the 603. Pretty smart on MXL's part tho, i must say. And not a bad deal either. I love those 603s. By far the best POS condenser you can buy for the price. The only thing is they clip like crazy. ANyways, I just wanted to see what anyone has to say about that whole deal.

I have them, and I love them... I use the 990 in combination with the 991 for acoustic guitar micing (X'Y or otherwise), and the 990 on vocals. I'm looking for something better on vox though, probably the MXL V69M or V67, perhaps SP C1.
