Hi all,

I have a little bit of a problem when recording one of my songs. It starts a muted fifth, kinda compare with the intro of Bryan Adams 'Summer Of 69' (although I don't really like him, I just want to make clear what I mean:)).

When I play the intro, I hear several harmonics with the mute, and they really bother me. I play with a 1.5mm dunlop pick, I pick the strings straight like I have to, not in some weird angle, and I have quite a firm grip on the pick. When I drop one of the (standard) things I just mention, it gets, of course more irritating.

Is there any technique that can help me remove those harmonics?

Well you can use more pressure or you can move the heal of your hand farther up the the string length..sounds like you are close to the bridge..move your pick hand up.. maybe to the space between your rhym. PU and your neck PU..Also see if you can cut back the gain just a bit..Good luck

It sounds like a fret problem, a minor buzz caused by flat or mis-shaped frets will cause that. I have the same problem with my guitar right now. I'd suggest getting a fret dressing or full fret job done.

To work around it, try turning you pick (the side facing the head) up towards the high E a little bit to help take some of the attack off. It won't fully solve the problem but it helps. turnig it towards the low E will exaggerate the noise.

There's also a possibility of rattle inside your pickups that may chirp (usually when playing the d string). Getting your pickups "potted" will solve that. potting is having your pickups dunked in melted wax to fill any rattleing parts.

There's also the possibility that something else causing it, like a truss rod problem inside the neck. I hope that's not the problem with my axe. if that's it, it's time to get a new guitar :(
