Is there any chance I can get a short scale maple fret board for a Mustang bass?

Your best shot is to get in the habit of checking ebay and that goes for just about anything you might want. Expect to pay $200-$300 for a neck in good shape. Be cautious about aftermarket brands even those endorsed by Fender as some have quality issues.

I have a 76 Mustang with the sweetest maple neck/fretboard of any instrument that I've ever played...
....I've tried some off-brand and aftermarket short-scale maple necks (highly recommended ones), and the difference in quality is stunning....hold out for the real deal.....it took me years of dreaming, and layaway, to pull it off, but I have no regrets!

Warmoth could make a good one for you out of any wood you want, but it would end up pretty pricey... I'd avoid the "licenced" Fender ones as has been already said. But really I think for old Fenders you kind need old Fender parts to keep the vibe (or something like that)...
