Hey fellow songwriters!!

Just wanted to inquire if anyone has songs uploaded to any music publisher/music supervisor websites, and if they've had any luck. Is it worth it?? I have a degree in music business from 1994, but the business has changed so much and I need some advice if anyone has any.

Yes.
Yes.
Yes.

One of my 'mentors' has six production music publishers that advert his with work, available for sampling on each or their sites. He does very well with income from licence fees and royalties....enough to buy a new luxury car every year.

I have one publisher, 11 signed works, and one that has been used. Getting ready to submit another 16 unsigned to a couple dozen publishers. I could buy a cup of coffee with my profit.....but I'm plodding onward.

Maybe you should register as a publisher AND composer; make your own site...and self-publish: you have the business cred and experience to go that way. If your stuff is attractive, and you snag clients, you keep all the profit.

Then, if you're successful, you can begin representing others' work. Nothing stopping you from being a publisher.

This is very interesting... any examples of just who these publishers are? Who are the Top Ten? All info treated in the strictest confidence!? Sounds like fun! :D

In fact, I have some songs up at MusicSupervisor.com. It's free so it's worth it. I get hits, but no takers, so I'm still paying full fare for my coffee. :D

I defintiely need to put songs up at other supervisor sites... oh, and I need to write better songs, too. :o

Chili - did you have an album together when you signed up at Music Supervisor?

Yes, I used songs from my last CD, but not all of them. I don't think it makes a difference whether you have a cd or not. I uploaded the songs and then they jury them for acceptance. It takes a few days.

Frankie:

Music Publishers Association

Here's a result from a quick google: a list of British production publishers, seven of which accept unsolicited pop and other material. That's a good bunch to send a CD to...for a start. There are a lot of them, everywhere. Think about all the music you hear in media, and don't listen to.

The guy I mentioned has pretty good representation in Spain and Austrailia, eg. And they're among his quickest payers.

Manhattan Production Music

This is a biggie. My bud's with them...one of his bunch.

I have about 7 of my songs on musicsupervisor. Mostly instrumental stuff, all different genres from scoring cues, gaming audio, and an electronica piece. I signed up for the pro to have access to the licensing lounge and get my songs approved within 24 hours. I've got a bunch of hits and a couples listens, very tough. I guess you have to get lucky, and hopefully people are searching for what you have available, it's all in the meta data. You just gotta keep writing and pluggin' away at it, i guess. Thanks for the replies guys. Check out my stuff if you'd like.

There are many different types of music publishers, the role of music publisher must change to meet new demands. It is very likely that the new small music publisher will have sufficient computer skills along with the more traditional understanding of music publishing, marketing, promotion, contact management, accounting, copyright law, negotiation, business etiquette, contract law, music business politics, and just plain old common sense.

Why do you cut and paste from other website? Don't you have an original thought in your fucking head?? All your posts are comprised of cut and paste text from other sites. fuckhead.

The music publishing business can be difficult, especially for an new artist. Music Publishing and Recording Companies actually making a lot of money from this business.

Hmm, must be victoria stiles again. Copying and pasting from other sites.

Are we spamming in this thread now?

If that's the case, Bombplates just added a catalog feature for songwriters! You can add a page that presents your songs in a format that's easy for publishers to browse. It's pretty cool!

Who's Victoria Stiles? Do spammers have names now?

Back when I was a mod, we were getting a lot of 'users' from China who would cut and paste semi-relevant content from other sources on the internet. I'm pretty sure they were some kind of automated bot. Victoria Stiles was one of them and our new friend here is most likely the same person/bot.

They are annoying because they add nothing to the thread... you can tell from my brief hiatus from patience.
