music for kids or highly regressed adults

I listened to both tunes.

The kick drum is way too heavy. The lead vocals need to be much more up-front -- you'll probably need to compress the mix a bit to get them high enough to be understood, and yet keep them from sticking out. Also, I could do with a bit less echo effect on the voice.

The songs have qualities that children like: simple, rhythmic, singable. But I think you might need to scale back the production a bit to make the songs more accessible to young ears.

Hope that helps,
Don

I'm interested to hear this. Tried to listen but my media player won't play it - haven't had that trouble with Nowhere Radio before. Perhaps you could put up an mp3 somewhere like lightningmp3.com?

I don't trust anyone who is making music for kids!
Timothy Lawler seems to be very interested in hearing this mess for some reason. Why the fascination with kid's music Timothy Lawler?
Usually when the creative well runs dry some folk are inclined to make music for the lowest common denominator-youth!
Youth are easily persuaded to buy into your mediocre "songs".I am hip to what you are doing!
Guy's like you should sell all of your recording equipment PRONTO!

I'm currently considering recording childrens music. I have many ideas for them. My 2 and 4 year old like to sing. I'm thinking of coming up with some original music to sing to. they like kids songs comercials and those musicals on nickjr.

I listened to Springtime. Nice song. I like the guitars levels more after 2:00 where they stand out more. The synth horn solo's nice - only sounds synthy on the high notes. Agree that the kick's too high, but that's the kind of thing that's going to help keep a group of kids together if this'll be done as a chorus. Snare's a little bright too. Fitting the recording’s style, a child's voice on the vox would be great. I don't get the phone ringing sound effect though. I'll listen to the other later. I taught elementary school music for a few years and can appreciate what you're taking on with this kind of thing, heh-heh. :D

Thanks to Don and Timothy for their comments - sorry not to reply (been away).
For all those who are able to think about music for kids without paedophilia or adult inadequacy jumping into their minds, I think there are endless possibilitites - I'm just trying to make something which they can relate to, which isn't patronising or grossly simplistic. I'm very pleased if anyone else feels inspired to try writing something for kids.
Some of the other songs I've done have been much more rocky (even a punk-ballet cross) and if anyone's interested, I'll post a couple.
If anyone bothers to visit www.nboyd.net, they'll see that writing children's music is not an alternative to writing adult music, just another creative area.
