i'm just getting into computer based recording and am having some slight problems. i'm running mxl 550/551 vocal/instrument mics into an ART dual pre usb interface on audacity. my issue is that audacity only recognizes the left channel of my preamp. i've opened a stereo track in audacity and set the channels (one left, one right) but as soon as i hit record it opens yet another track which only records mono from the left channel. also when not recording and just monitoring input i only get activity on the left channel.

i have also tried running Traverso and CEPro 2.1, both of which show activity on both input channels while monitoring. CePro seems to want to record both inputs on one track and Traverso just flat out doesn't record anything.

All my cables are good and my preamp shows signal coming through on both channels. with Traverso and CEPro showing signal on both channels i would think it isn't a usb issue. My intuition on the matter seems to be getting me nowhere.

ANY IDEAS?

First thing I'd do is plug a headset into the unit to see what comes out.
Second thing (You're not going to like this).... Only getting sound out of the Left channel and other track assigning issues are the most frequent questions, in my opinion, among new starts with DAWs.
I'd go into the software and explore.
Every time you see "Sound Devices", "Preferences" or "Options" open it up and examine your settings.
I'm assuming that you are using USB and not the monitor lines, right?

A mic is a mono source, so it will record to a mono channel. Make two mono channels, one for each mic
