ive been looking at buying a multi-track recorder for a while now. i was almost certain on getting the AKAIDPS16

i want to record my band live, the akai has 10 track simultianious recording.

but the VF160 has 16! and its cheaper... anyone have one of these or know waht the catch is?

thanks

Sure. The two machines are not really comparable. The AKAI has it all over the Fostex in terms of sound quality, but the VF160 has really strong open architecture-type features, and has an onboard CD burner.

The Fostex is limited to 16 bit resolution. The AKAI can record and mix at 24 bit, 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 mHz sampling rates. That's at least 16 times the resolution of the Fostex. Final mixdown to CD on each is 16 bit / 44.1 bit resolution. BUT - all the manipulating in the AKAI is at a much higher resolution. The signal is better.

There are a couple of threads on this topic.
