M-audio lists these multi-patterns as compatible with the microtrack

AKG C-4000 $450-650
Shure KSM44 $300-400
Shure KSM141 $400

but i dont have $300+ to spend on a mic or a set of mics, and i only want one mic capable of multiple patterns for portability reasons.

so has anyone used any of these mics with the microtrack?

Studio Projects B3 ($200)
CAD M179 ($150)
Groove Tubes GT57 ($150-275)

Are there any multi-pattern self powered mics?

Can't think of any multipattern battery-powered mics,
if that's what you mean. When I need
portability with a mic that needs phantom
I use the Denecke PS-1a (~$125 but I've
seen phantom units for $50). Before
getting one of the cheapies best to ask
about it here first.

it doesnt have to be self powered. the MT provides around 30v of power for microphones. some microphones will work fine with this voltage.

you just have to shop around and check microphone specs. you do NOT have to buy a battery powered mic.

you arent going to find a multipattern battery powered microphone. you just wont.

ok i knew i shouldnt have included that question about battery powered mics, it totally nullified my main question. screw battery powered mics, i was just looking for a workaround to the MT's low battery life.

someone please answer my main question.

Well that's not the "main question" you asked originally. You asked about a multipattern mic for portability reasons. You didn't ask about extending the run time of the microtrack.

If your main question is now how to get longer battery life out of the Microcrap, the simplest answer is you need to buy a USB battery pack to run it for extended periods of time. They're about 10 bucks or so on Ebay, run on a pair of double A's and provide about 5-6 additional hours of run time.

Obviously if you don't use the phantom you'll see better battery life. If you use the phantom you'll probably get 3 hours extra or so.

I think his main question was whether anyone had used a B3, M179, or GT57 with the microtrack.

I've never used a microtrack so my usefulness ends now.

ah you got it, too bad you cant help :(

that always happens, i try to ask a couple questions without making a ton of threads and everyone gets sidetracked on my last question.

so has anyone used any of those mics with the microtrack? I emailed m-audio tech support and they said they should all work without problems, but more specifically im looking for personal experience with their mics mA and MT battery life.
