Hey,
I'll search the archives, but as I always do, I'll ask again anyway! Never know when you'll get a fresh perspective. Question? What do you like, and what did you pay for it. Do you wish you would have gone with a different one? Thanks to all Axe handlers..PEACE

don't buy anything that starts with a z, ends with an m and has a oo in the middle.

How about buying pedals and standalone units!!!

Slackmaster 2000

i have a boss me 10 (that i never use...except as a tuner)..and several guitar players that i have recorded have had various different guitar multi effects units

its been my experiance that most guitar multi effects units are okay for a live gig but generate way too much self noise to be used in studio recording applications. there may be some quiet ones out there, but i haven't heard one yet

Good point. I was wondering about that. My old Korg processor is very noisey. I was only hoping that the "new generation 24-bit" processers were more quiet.
Peace

Although, I definitely am a stomp box fan, the BOSS GT-6 is a damn good multieffects processor. It runs about 395.99 and here’s some of it’s features:
· Flagship floor-based guitar effects processor with advanced COSM preamp, 24-bit converters and coaxial digital output for recording applications, 30 COSM amp models, plus new Distortion/Overdrive Pedal Modeling (15 types) and Wah Modeling (5 types)
· 340 Effects programs
· 340 effects programs-more than any other pedal in its class!, Customize function for creating new amp types, distortion and wah pedals
· Easy, analog-style control; 15 knobs for editing commonly used parameters
· Easy, analog-style control; 15 knobs for editing commonly used parameters
· Built-in Expression and Control pedals for realtime control of effects
· New "Uni-V" and "De-Fretter" effects, plus improved Feedback Modeling, EZ Tone feature for creating custom patches based on 30 templates
· Built-in Expression and Control pedals for realtime control of effects

Hope that helps. Best of luck for finding one that would suite your needs.

So it's got 680 effects programs and 30 knobs?

How about the noise levels with the Boss for recording?
Does it color the guitars sound when in bypass mode?

I love my Korg AX1000G. Great sounds and extremely easy to use (never cracked open the manual). It can be a little noisy for direct recording, but you'll never beat the sound of a mic'ed amp anyway. It isn't available anymore (they upgraded to something else - the "next generation") but it should still be similar. Nice price too. :)

Get a POD Pro dude! About $550.00. nice for recording.
However it's compressor sucks so you might want to get a seperate compressor if you need one.

Do noise gates help here??

you can use a gate if the effects unit is noisy. You have to decide if you want the note your playing on the guitar cut short and not allowed to decay naturally...or....let them decay naturally, but if you do that, before the note dies out the noise level is as loud or louder than the note.

hell i play a strat and single coils are hard to get quiet enough to record sometimes. put some multi effects noise in there too and you have the buzz from hell.

thats why strat players need a big room to record in...the have to walk around a 2000 sq ft. area to find a spot where the guitar won't hum :)
