My recordings always seem really awesome through headphones, while recording it, etc.. but once its all done i notice that all my recordings sound muffled. they're not as crisp as I want them..any suggestions?

It's very hard to mix on headphones, especially if you have overly bright ones like the Sony 7506.

You need to mix on studio monitor speakers. If you have to mix on headphones, at least get some open design ones like the Sennheiser 580's. But even with those, it will be tough to judge reverb levels and panning.

In a spectral analyser you'll probably see a big lump on the bass freq. You might have to do some crazy EQing

If you use a lot of compression and EQ during the mixdown or mastering you can inadvertantly suck a lot of the high end out of the mix.

A big culprit is using too fast of an attack on compression. Sometimes you need a slower attack to let the transients through.
