Hi All,

I just got my new MR-8 today, and was having a blast playing and recording.

However, in the middle of one song, the unit all of the sudden froze up. Everything on the screen just froze, and I was unable to access the menu, or make anything on the screen change. I fiddled with buttons for awhile, but nothing happened. Eventually I turned the machine off and then back on again. Now there is nothing on the screen, and nothing works (except the backlight on the screen-so I know I'm getting power).

*Sigh* Is my unit fried already after less than 1 day? Or is there something to do?

Thanks

Adam

Doesnt sound good.Where did you buy it?If you just got it today Im sure you can get an exchange for it.

I bought a Fostex VF 16 last january and it fried the first day I had it.I bought it from American Musical Supply. They sent me a new one before I even sent the fried one back.....they sent it Next Day Air....I pretty much deal with them exclusively because of their great return/refund policy.

Find your reciept and return that thing. It's better that it went bad right out of the box on the first day than later on down the road after the return time had ran out.

I know it's a bad feeling but it happens to all of us.Some pieces of gear are just duds right out of the box.Return it tomorrow!

It came from Musician's Friend, so I should be able to get another.

Something weird is going on with it. I formatted the Compact Flash card in my digital camera to see if that was the problem.

Now it occasionally comes on, but with an error message, and it freezes up.

It seems its some kind of internal software problem. Guess it will have to go back :(

You might wanna check out the Fostex board too.Musicians Friend has pretty much the same policy as AMS so you wont have a problem getting an exchange. You'll probably just need to call and get a RA # and send it back.

Musician's friend was very helpful about it. They are sending me a new unit, and sending me a fed ex label to send this one back to them for free. Good service sure is helpful.

Thats the same way AMS dealt with me.You cant complain about the service of Musicians Friend or American Musical Supply......top notch all the way. You'll probably get it by next monday and be recording again in no time.;)
