Well my mr-8 finally came and it is a beautiful machine. I was wondering if anyone has recorded guitar to the mr8 via the line 6 pod? if so what kinda settings/levels are you using?
I record my guitars with a POD and I am very pleased with the results. I use it mostly for heavy stuff so I tend to favor the dry rectified setting, output at noon, drive at 3:00, bass at 11:00, middle at 11:00, treble at 11:00 of course the setting also depend on the guitar you use. This recording I used an Ibanez 7string RG tuned down to B-flat. Check it out:
I am using the pod with the black panel setting for blues and the pod's verson of the Mesa Boogie MK 11 for jazz. So far the results are very good. I really think the pod is a great buy for the money. It's a lot easier than miking up my amps. I create my backing tracks with the Yamaha Qy100, which means I can create a complete backing track, record it to two tracks, and then lay down the guitar and vocals.
Hey, Clif, I'm just really diggin' that tune. Love the guitars. Are you using a drum machine? If so, you could add a live drummer and just about have yourself a movie soundtrack song there.

I'm using a Yamaha DG stomp. WOW getting some great stuff dialed in with this!
I have a Roland 840EX too and it has some decent amp/cabinet sims and decent effects.
Since the Fostex is a fairly simple machine I've been using the Yamaha to cheat on some stuff and it works out VERY WELL with it!
I picked up some inexpensive large diaphram condenser mics (MXL V57m and MXL 990) for about $140 total and they have worked very well for acoustic guitar stuff.
The Roland has been sitting in limbo since i got the MR-8
I miss the EQ and what not.....but hopefully I'll be able to start using N-Tracks to edit etc.
in recording direct to my mr8, the signal goes:
gtr--digitech rp100 (the cheap digital preamp)-- zoom 9150 (tube preamp)-- digitech dsp256xl--dod d12--digitech ips33--
lexicon mpx 100 -- into mr8
i like the flexability of having a choice of digital
models and actual tube distortion (much warmer to my ears,
but at times noisy). and depending on how much i turn
on or off, i can get "normal gtr sounds" or really
whack-o sounds (which i like)
