When uploading an MP3 to a site like SoundClick that only allows 128KBPS...would it be better to upload a 128KBPS mp3, or a 320KBPS?

The reason I ask is, I'm wondering if they convert the MP3 to 128 even if it already is 128...

a 128 version of 320 would sound better than a 128 version of 128...

And what about MySpace?

Hi Danny,
I'd be inclined to send 128, from the start!!

Hi supersit

I was thinking the same thing, but just want to make sure they don't reconvert the file even though it's already 128. ;)

Danny, I'm not 100% absolutely sure about this - somebody can please correct me if I'm wrong - but I believe that SoundClick analyzes the upload and will reject it if it is encoded at higher than 128K. Much as this board will analyze and reject an avatar or attached graphic that is larger than a certain size.

At any rate (pun intended), it's easy enough to check. Just try uploading a 320K file and see what happens... :)

Yea, I uploaded a 320KBPS file and it converted it to 128. I guess I can upload a 320 and a 128 and compare the two.

Well, I tried it and I couldn't hear a noticeable difference, so I guess I'll stick to uploading whatever bit rate the site uses.

I would say it must be better to upload a 128kbps mp3. Unnecesary conversions between compressed sound formats is something you always should avoid.
