Troubles getting the Lame.dll to work with Reaper. I tried numerous things and read a few posts, still not working.

Is it because I setup the tracks as WAV?

Can easily Render to WAV.

The deal is....was using NCH Switch to convert Wav to MP3, but NCH free trial ran out. If this dont work soon I'll maybe spill anpother $30 for NCH Converter.

Sooo already paid $60 for Reaper and was wondering if theres any inputs from you experts on getting MP3 (Lame) to work?
Or any "free" MP3 converter to work inside Reaper would be helpful.

I downloaded Lame about 8 times...I installed it into my Reaper Folder, I pasted one into the other folders, I even opened it once with Reaper and got the icon to change.

But when I use it to render I get an error. Appreciate if someone could look at the set up below.

Thanks,..

No, lame can sometimes just be fussy about where it needs to be on your system.
Go over to the cockos.com reaper forum and search, there are plenty of others who have had the same problem.

thanks.

I have done a bit of searching there but will try to find the post that gets me there. I know it is in several posts, common issue with some pc's.

After reading around , I downloaded Audacity and then Lame was loaded into it.
in about 5 clicks, the converter/program was working WAV to MP3...for free

Curiouser and curiouser. I've not experienced your problem, so I don't know how to help. I know that in Reaper I have rendered a mix straight to MP3 without a problem. However, as mjbphotos suggests, it's not my preferred method. If I want an MP3, I most commonly render to a WAV, do any mastering work required, then load that finished WAV file into Reaper and re-render it to an MP3 (again without problems).

The lame-enc.dll is located in the Reaper directory.

Its in my drop down list, but when I select it the pop-up window says I have to download it.

1)I download it.
2) then open it and I get a Error Loading popup.
3) I tried to place it in the Reaper folder. (have tried placing it various Reaper folders)

Results: Doesnt work...

Rendering in Wave works and never required any support.

Audacity took Lame really easily, and it worked in a few clicks, (so I assume I'm clicking the mouse right.)

so I'm a bit lost on whats the issue or what I need to do? not a show stopper, but it'd be cool to be able to use one program for everything.

In your Reaper folder I can see lame-enc(1) - copy
But I can't see lame-enc.dll

Try deleting the first, then finding the second and dragging it into that folder.

Hey that worked!

I'm not sure why....but thats alright.

Did just what you said and cut and pasted a lame.dll, deleted the other.

very strange indeed, thanks again!

Yep. When you try to render an mp3. It'll tell you that you need to store "lame-enc.dll" or "lame-enc64.dll" in the same folder as reaper.exe. Naming it anything different will break it.

Or you can just use Audacity for mp3 conversion. That's what I do!

I had a hell of a time getting lame to work on my mac. I gave up and use itunes to convert. I really only need them as mp3 when I post them here.

Maybe I should look into it again.

d*&^*&^ I second that, aaron. It was one thing that didnt load up easily, and I'd tried many many times, and read a lot of posts.

Seems gecko saw something I didnt, and still dont understand what went on?
I followed the link to Lame, then selected the download link etc..etc..

seemed it was a simple procedure, except the small detail it didnt work. doh!

Its good to have the MP3 option inside Reaper working..thanks again gecko!

It's on my list of things to do, but I just moved and spent a lot of time building cables and rerouting everything...so now I just want to record...maybe next week.
