hey...i am young... dont know too much about recording.. but i recorded a few bands... i started my studio in june... i have a sample a this site

please tell me anything that could help out my recording.. and mixing... id really appreciate it.. my first post in the mp3 mixing section.... here is a list of equip that i have with my budget... and i have about 500 bucks... wat u think i should get with my 500 after listening.... list :

i know this band isnt too good... im not in it.. i just recorded them.. local .. thx
 
Yeah they aren't real good.

Mixwise, the guitars seem a little heavily weighted to the left. That main guit on the left side is a bit muddy and missing some low mids. The cleaner guit on the right side is a little tough to hear.

The vocals need their "spot" in the mix. The guitars are occupying too much space for the vox to properly come through. Pitch issues here and there.

Timing issues throughout. Not your fault, I know.

Little click at 1:09.

u said that the guitar is muddy.. how could fix that.. and how can i make the vocals have thier spot... eqing?? and wat are some general eq's for that? thx.. and did the overall mix sonud low? also... i need a compressor bad...
 
Going from memory...

On the guitar... It sounded more to me like the tones coming from the amp weren't the best to begin with. So one answer would be to work with the equipment, get a better sound to begin with, and retrack.

If that's not an option, most mud exists around 250hz-300hz. You could make a small notch EQ cut somewhere in there. Roll off everything below 120hz - maybe a nudge higher. Again going from memory, you may want to boost that guy around 2Khz. But...

Watch that it doesn't interfere further with the vocals. You might want give the vox a boost somewhere in the 400hz-600hz range. Every voice is different, but I found a trick with my voice is to give a tiny boost around 4000hz to help them pop through. But as I say, every voice is different. Your milage WILL vary.

Keep in mind that you asked for "general EQ's" and that's what this is. Just guesses to maybe use as a starting point.
 
I was going to comment on specifics, but decided not to....

Yes, the recording's pretty rough, but the answer to why is right in front of your face.... pick a CD off the shelf that's in a similar style and compare your recording to that.... the differences should be immediately obvious.

Then get yourself a copy of "Modern Recording Techinques" by Huber & Runstein and start learning the craft!
 
first thing I noticed is that the drummer needs a metradome to keep the timing right. The begining is at a good speed but then slows way down for some reason.

Another thing is why is the bitrate so high? I clicked properties and it said it was a video file for some reason. For such a high bitrate is sounds kinda lo-fi........but I'm a little toasted at the moment so I might just be reading this wrong...........lata

lol.. i made it a high bitrate.. hoping that i woludnt lose any quality.. cause i couldnt afford it.. thx for the suggestions... ill check out that book
