It seems like his excellent cover of All Along The Watchtower done by @mark skinner has gotten some excellent reviews here.

This gives me an idea.

What about a ‘best of’ CD or even vinyl of some of the great stuff that has come out of the the mp3 forum.

There’s been some absolutely great stuff that’s come out of this place.

What immediately comes to mind is the skinner cover, some of famous beagle’s stuff, super creep has done some brilliant whole albums.....And there’s a member, who’s name escapes me, who did a stellar, very original cover of Creedence’s “Fortunate Son”

Some of the tunes I’ve heard here are so good they deserve to be on an album.

Now I realize digital is the current king of music formats. But files get lost, forgotten, hard drives crash etc. A physical copy is so much cooler and something you can actually possess in the real world.

Anyway, just an idea. It’ll probably gain zero traction but at least I threw it out there. :D

There's no compelling reason it couldn't be done. Someone (i.e. probably you) would just have to take the initiative to compile a list of candidate songs, contact folks to get their permission to use them, clear the cover licenses, master the sampler, design cover art, make the media, and fulfill orders.

It's no small amount of work, but it's eminently do-able.

Sadly, I’m just the idea man. I wouldn’t have the time to take on a project like that.

clinic ain't the place for this,

clinic is for us looking for feedback, and sucking mud cause there ain't much.

folks seem scared to even say anything.

you post, and then crickets here in the clinic.

I get what you think though.

the show off sub - this is where the shiny shit shows.

VHS done laid down the dreg of this idea.

so oh well. or....

I got the in-hand discs from another forum.

Mr RFR - you got the physicals?

I do

I agree on the clinic not being the place. But there’s been great stuff that’s come out of the clinic as well as the show off forum.

The overall concept of the best of is a cool idea ( to me)

How cool would it be to have a yearly “Best Of”. It would seem to be an honor for members getting one of their songs on a disc. Not a stupid ‘participation award’ but truly the ‘Creme on the Top’ of that year’s musical offerings.

But what ever, I’m just thinking out loud.

Seems like the “Jam Fests” are a thing of the past, this could be an alternative.

What do do mean ‘do I have the physicals’ ?

I remember many months, maybe years of folks posting songs on TF that lead to the TF compilation CD pictured above.
Looking back, I was a newbie and felt fortunate to be included.
Listening now, tonight I see how advanced those folks got to be.
So yes, let's bring up a new crop.
After all you said.
