Well, after S8-N's tongue lashing of "Juston" I hesitate to do this, but...
if anyone cares to listen, I have posted a rock guitar instrumental mp3 at Freedrive. If anyone listens and has comments, I'd be appreciative.

Sounded a bit frenetic but overall it worked.
Musically, that bass lead was really nice.
I think the drums need the most work. That snare hit on two and four never seemed to change much or go away. That's cool for a few measures at a time but gets old if just left running. Looking at the wave display in Vegas Pro, it looks like you leaned pretty hard on some compressor, but failed to normalize the resultant file. I can't point to any unwanted artifacts intoduced by the compression but I've posted the normalized file at JustOn.

Freedrive is impossible, it seems, to actually access..got the usual not responding crap. So not hearing the original, I really don't know what I learned from drstawl's tinkering, but I liked what I heard. The panning on the bass was great; really effective. The drums didn't really bother me at all, for a long time I only had keyboard percussion that didn't change a beat once thru entire songs....gibs

All I did was make the file about 3 dB louder. No real changes were made.

Cool. Very Steve Vai.

One thing I noticed, though, was that drums seemed to very subtley fade in and out. Not by much mind you. This is especially noticable during the bass solo. I'm listening to it with very cheap headphones at work....might not be as noticable on a good setup.

All in all some great guitar work. Are you thinking about adding a real bass? If you tell me that the bass is real then you're the most consistant bass player I've ever heard. :)

Thanks for the responses...

drstrawl: You're right...I forgot to normalize the final product. Thanks for the re-mix.

Slack: LOL...wish I could take credit for the bass line but it is indeed sequenced. I don't own a bass and can't get a decent replica sound out of my guitar. When I recorded most of the solo, I was still in the heavy rock influence so the Vai influence is certainly there. I did tend to get carried away with the Kahler tail piece a little back then. Sure is a drag getting old...

Thanks again for the comments guys.

Have you by chance heard any of Dondello's stuff? He gets a pretty realistic bass sound by pitch shifting a guitar sample. Doesn't sound exactly like a bass, but I was pretty suprised.
