I mix in (2x) real-time
I am recording my friends band for a demo or something of the like.

I set everything up and was all set to go and started recording (this is at their house). The sound was great but long story short, I was getting an intermittent(1 second or so) digital buzz randomly. About once or twice a minute. I ignored it to see if it would translate into the recordings. And the inevitable occurred, it did.

What is making this random digital buzz. It seems to make the audio skip. It did not seem to relate to the sample rate or buffer settings. By no means am I an expert but I made those lower to see if there was a difference.

The noise it makes is kind of like a shock or brief electrical shortage. Like a distortion. I'm sure it could be anything really. It happens even during standby. No tracks armed, recording, playing back, it still happens.

I am using reaper and have not experienced this problem in my own confines and I have recorded 8 tracks at one time successfully so weight on my computer shouldn't be the problem?

Any direction would be extremely helpful but this might be so specific that it is hard to pinpoint. I'm rambling. Thanks for your consideration! Eric

Are you using any other digital sources with it?
processors,digital pre's, adats?
Sounds like a clock issue, I have mine set to get
it's timing from a a guitar processor, if it isn't on
I get something like that.
If your not using anything else as a source then
make sure you have your source set to internal
with the motu setup program.

Using any weird demo plugins?

Am I understanding correctly that this only happens when you are at someone else's house or business? Can you describe the age of the building where you were recording? Any radio station towers nearby? Cell towers?

Just a quick though, as i do agree with the clock issue but it may be possible that it is being caused by other non recording related programs such as antivirus and other programs that are trying to access internet that are looking for updates.

I still have not figured out the problem. I reinstalled reaper, and I don't seem to be getting any more noises. Then again I dont have 8 mic's running into the 8pre right now. But, to my disbelief it may not have been the 8pre. Sorry for being overdramatic! Hopefully this is the last time I have to deal with that.

I need to figure out some way to cast out the digital demons. They're really starting to get to me.

Thanks for your concern guys!
