Anyone out there using the motif Rack with Cakewalk for sequencing?

How do the sounds stripped of their effects sound? Is it easy to get effects back in "sequencer" mode (unlike Trinity for example)?

Is it 128 polyphony (unlike Motif keys, which is 64)?

i just had a chance to check this unit out yesterday at the music store.

it does indeed have 128 polyphony and sounds pretty nice.
i was using it against the roland 5080 and i perfer the variety of sounds and price over the roland

sounds on the rom are pretty clean/authentic without effects...
i own the triton studio and i was thinking of this rack unit as a nice companion for under $1000 ... the acoustic piano beats the triton hands down, but the arps and pads on the triton cruise by the motif.

Voices without effects are okay - just depends on which ones you're using. It's definitely a power house, but crippled without sampling. You can learn more about it here:

Bang for the buck, it doesn't get much better in that price range.

Stock sounds maybe.......I have some Motif pads that can destroy stock Triton pads HANDS DOWN...... Pro Rec makes some killer pads for the Motif Monster..... The dual arps on the Triton Beat the Motif though.... I think that is the least respected pertion of the Motif... The arp presets are OK at best.....

you seem to have some hostilities toward the triton.

why buy program presets from pro rec... having troubles programming yourself?

Okay, okay - all things being fair, the Motif is a hard mutha frigga to figga out. If I could take a couple of swings at the people who made it so user friendly - well, let's just thank Yamaha for a fantastic workstation.

LoL ..... No I keep hearing people make comparisons on machines basing the presets as everything.........I myself am not a programming wiz.. I know how to make the sounds but prefer the variety that Pro Rec offers.... Motif's pads are quite meaty with some good programming.....

Have you heard some of Pro-Rec's sounds... Most likely not because if you have heard some of there newer stuff you would have not made that comment.

Voice Mode....

This mode in the Motif makes life difficult.... Understanding that you can program in Voice mode then sequence in Pattern mode...

The insert effects are a pain to learn as well. Pattern Chaining and SMF files are all little puzzles to solve in there own..
