U.S cultural hegemony?
Most of the films we get to see are from the U.S. as is most of the popular music, mainly because the industry is so big and has the advertising clout. It's not really surprising as U.S. is the dominant power on earth people inrternationally become affected/influenced by American culture - just like during the days of the British Empire people around the world adopted British habits and the same in Roman times, etc.
You can probably go into the most out of the way place on earth and still find a coca cola can somewhere!
Lucky for me I happen to love American popular culture, If not sugary drinks.
Anyway, for anyone whose concerned, rest assured that the German umpah music IS alive and well in the beer tents, according to my friend who returned recently from the Munich beer festival!
(Before anyone points it out yes I know some of the artists referred to were British bands, but they were influence by US music).
