Most Important Improvements of v3 Over v2.2

Now that v3.x has settled in with the user community, what are the most important differences of why one should upgrade to v3?

I'm not looking for nitpicking improvements, but major reason.

I'm currently on 2.2 XL.
 
Bus routing and advanced audio engine!!! :)

What??? You're not looking for that nitpicking improvements??? :confused:

Then you'll get cheaper upgrade price when v4 is coming out... :D

Truck load of more is coming away below mine...

Bus routing is MAJOR.

So is the fact that the gapping problem is finally fixed.

Two other "nitpicking" things that I have found hugely helpful are the channel strip that pops up on the left for whatever track you have selected, and the "confidence recording" display.

I hate to repeat others <grin>, but for me the biggest things are:

Bus structure -- its wonderful to finally be able to put Ozone across the final output bus

Confidence recording -- to see the waveforms while recording has already saved me some major embarassment. Yes, I had to ask the players to start again, but at least it was just a second or two into the playing, not at the end of a perfect long take!

Sample rate conversion on audio export...FINALLY! (I have the 3.1.1 edition which is a free patch if you have 3). I've got a lot of projects in progress that were started at 48 kHz. The built in SRC is letting me continue the projects and export quickly a rough mix for a CD at the end of a session -- makes me lots of friends! Much much better workflow.

(I have the producer edition)
The Lexicon reverb -- I'm liking it more and more as I play with it in mixes.

Upgrade for the new and improved CONSOLE VIEW! :) :) :)

Moskus, you know nobody uses the blasted console view.
In answer to the question at hand, I think the single biggest improvement is in the bus architecture. You can set up virtually any routing situation you could ever dream up. It's really great, and I didn't even know I needed it till I had it!

I've always used the console view. Even in PA9 I used the console. It's easier for me to work with the mixer idea.

IN PA9 you HAD to use the Console View for certain functions.

With Sonar you no longer need it (unless your name is moskus). :D

I've said it before and I'll say it again, emulating a device that is designed to be worked by your hands with a graphical representation that is worked by a mouse is just plain foolish. Unless you are using a physical control surface, USE TRACK VIEW.
 
I agree with several of you....with Moskus on the console view, and the rest on the Bus routing....:-) Why?? Fist of all I have got 2 monitors.... I have adjusted the console view so that all the buses stay fixed in the right monitor, and all the regular channels (tracks) stays in the left monitor (here I have to scroll if I have over 10 or so tracks in the project....and I almost always have a lot more) But anyway, by arranging the console this way I have a very easy job controlling the mix…:-)

You've got 2 screens??? just try it out.
1. Drag the Console view all across the 2 screens
2. Drag the vertical line between the buses and the tracks so that it just cover the right screen
3. drag the vertical line between the buses and the main out so that it just show the main out all ti the right of the right monitor (hehe...)
4. Save it as a layout
5. Assign the saved layout to a Keybinding
6. ehhh....thats all

PS! My DAW isn't connected to the internet or network of any kind so it's hard to make any screenshots....

Hehe! That's a nice one! I haven't used the console like this before! :)

Then what do you do about the Track View?

I use track view when I'm recording...then I have track view in the right monitor and MOTU's console view in the right monitor (that way I can control any monitor channel any time...

In SONAR I have assigned Keybinding F2 for console view over both screens like I described and F3 for track view in the left monitor...
