most important drum mic?

i'm micing up a drum kit with 6 drum mics, I only have 2 outboard channel strips (focusrite trakmaster) wich drum mic's do i give the preamps to
1 overheads ?
2 snare & bass ?
3 toms ?

My thoughts would be the snare and kick. Do you have any onboard pres?

I agree with the snare and kick, They really hold the whole song togehter.

I agree with the kick/snare stuff, but only because the condensor mics will generally do better on a lesser pre. the dynamic mics you are using will be much more appreciative of the nice pres.

yea, that's what i do, i put my snare and kik to the cheap, external, but better pres than on the DAW, and send them to the vla compressor, then to the recorder, but the OH's go directly to the DAW.
