Well, I picked up an ML52 tonight at GC for $175. At that price, I couldn't stand it anymore. I don't know about guitar, but I put it up for a vocal mic and it's friggin' lovely. I don't know whether Scott Dorsey got one that sucks, or if he expected it to be a Royer, or what, but I really don't care. The main vocal mics in this studio up to this point are B.L.U.E. Kiwi, Rode NTK, Oktava MK319, Studio Projects C-3, Shure SM7B, AKG C414B-ULS, AKG C2000B, and AKG D320B. If what we heard tonight is any indication, this mic is going to spend a lot of time on the stand. It's got gobs of proximity effect with very little breakup., and not unlike the MK319, it's a little dark.-Richie
 
Well, Flatpicker, the secret is- be in the top 1% of GC customers worldwide, spending the price of a new car there in less than 2 years. They tell me GC is for hobbyists, not real recording people. Guess I'll have to throw out all this consumer level stuff, like the Avalon, the Taylor, etc.
I'm afraid the real answer is, they know I spend money there, and I don't buy stuff just to audition it and return it. I've developed a personal relationship with a few staff members who actually have a clue, and they know I won't pay the advertised price for anything.-Richie

Like I told everyone, The ML-52 and the MKL2500 are the top sleepers right now. Get them now while GC still has them. I still firmly believe that they are going away. This time next year people may be scrambling to buy these from anywhere for twice the price.
