More compression questions

Alright, now that I've had a few of my questions answered in my last thread, i have a few more. If i go with a 2 channel DBX compressor, and im using it to record drums, should i send the stereo outs of the mixer I'm running the drum mics through to to the compressor, and the outs of the compressor to the 8 track recorder? Somebody told me i should run the overheads through and nothing else if i only have two channels for compression, but i don't see how thats going to help my overall sound much... Your tips and help are very much appreciated. Thank You.

if you have only 2, i'd compress the kik and snare, and not the overs.
