Goes to show that when we, in the Analog Clan, get together, ain't nothin' that we can't change! :) Wait .... I smell a letter writing campaign to TEAC JAPAN! :D

~Daniel ;)

We're going to Decatur, Illinois and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico... We're going to California and Texas and New York... And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan and then we're going to Tokyo to take back Tascam! Yeeeeeeah! :D

Dammit I really really really really really need to get my Tascam 38 fixed.

I love digital but I miss analog.

People are actually bidding on this

Ok, Darwin was right. :D

Now that I see you can sell anything on ebay, I'm going to see what I can do with this:

ONE PARTIAL ROLL OF SCOTT TOILET PAPER
Original owner! Used only once, respooled and stored in a climate-controlled environment. Sold as is. Paypal only. Bid now before it gets away! :D

Ampex tape from '85. Box pretty yellowed too .. Hmmm ....

Btw, why is the reel half full ??

Exactly Daniel! I posted this a few days ago before there were any bids. Since I set my studio back up and started frequenting these forums a couple years ago I'm pretty much continually amused.

What's wrong with this tape? Test yourself and then scroll down for what I saw. You may see something I missed. :)

1. It's not on a 10.5-inch reel as the seller describes -- it's 12.5 inch. Even if you don't have the model number you can tell by the distance between the cutouts and the edge of the reel. The old style 10.5-inch reels have a distance of 1 inch. The current style is .75 inch. Also 3750 feet of tape will not fit on a 10.5-inch reel (unless you feel lucky or are really good at Jenga). :D

2. The reel couldn't possibly be "brand new" as described because the reel is less than half full (you can see the tape edges), it is not sealed in plastic, and the end of the tape is held down on the outside of the reel.

3. It's from 1985 -- a very bad year for sticky-shed. This is the very old pre-1986 style of box. It's a good example of what not to buy if all a seller shows is the picture of a box.

I kinda doubt the seller is trying to deceive anyone -- too many nice pictures. It's just an example of what else to watch out for on ebay -- seller ignorance.

:)

Tim,

Notice the buyer "soderchin" ? He was one of the people who bid on my Quantegy 456 box and then telephoned me that he thought he was bidding on 7" reels and asked me to cancel his bids etc ... (He actually left a voicemail message and I telephoned him back). Anyway, he profusely apologized about bidding on my auction. I then tried to be very easy on him and even spent, what seemed like a good length conversation, trying to steer him in the right direction of what to look out for and what is safe with regards to tapes. I even gave him your eBay id and 407 listing numbers and told him to "BIN". Then today I see the poor bastard bidding on that '85 Ampex! The guy's not only ignorant but and damn stupid fool, especially after trying to explain to him and spending 10-15 mins of my time and cost to phone him back. Goes to show that where there's an ignorant seller, you'll also find a buyer of the same ...

And if you're the sensitive type like me you can't even indulge in a guilt-free chuckle, because no sooner than you do you feel all icky inside as though you were jeering a group of Special Olympics contestants. Sometimes stunned silence -- in awe of the anarchy is the best I can do. :D

I keep learning that often-times no matter what is said or whom you try to help, people will just do what THEY want to do.

Yeah, sometimes silence can be golden ... ;)
