What monitors should I buy to listen to my microphone through?

well...ya know it really depends on what kind of microphone you have. :)

griffin mastering speaker

300 lbs each and only $24,900

everything will be clear as crystal.

Make sure to get some good cable. I have seen top end cable going for as little as $7500 used these days.

If it is a Chinese Microphone....do you need Chinese cables?:D

Yeah, Chinese cables are all right, but before I plug in my chinese mics I dip the ends in soy sauce for that extra KUNG-POW!!

Pete

What are you using for a pre?Also what type of music are you recording?A little background on your dietary habits would also be helpful. :D

Getting Hungry

I'm getting hungry with all this talk.

Wheres the soy sauce.

I need help recording. All I have is an old tape recorder from radio shack and a plastic Barbie mic. How can I make a radio quality CD?

(Just trying to start sh$t.)

busted, how are those plastic Barbie mics for drum overheads?

OK, smart-assery aside, sonusman, everyone's being vague or downright tangential because we don't know your application, your budget, etc. I can only tell you some familiar names in an entry/mid-range, then maybe you can trot on down to a store with your favorite mic and even pre, and sing through them, and also play a CD through 'em. This won't be ideal and you'll want to take the monitors home to test-drive them, but it's a start.

* Hafler M5
* Event 20/20s
* KRK Rok-It
* Hell, I dunno

I think everything I've listed is non-powered. Non-powered with a separate amp is a more flexible way to go; you can upgrade one or the other as deals/budget allows. Also easier resell for the same reason.

I have a pair of 20/20s which I got used for $200. I like 'em.

Ed,

You crack me up!!!

Geek,

Don't worry about it, but sonusman knows more about this stuff than you and I are ever likely to. The original post was put up to make a point (a valid one I might add), to some people.

:cool:

Eh, yeah, my newbie-ness shines through. I've been away from the boards for a while and started checkin' posts today ... seems there's some trollin' goin' on!

I'd thought I'd seen s-man's replies before, and that they showed allotta know-how.

I'd still like to know if anyone's ever tried Barbies mics for overheads ....

I hope you guys aren't accusing me of trolling... I put up a post about Genelec 1030A's vs. Mackie HR624's. Those monitors seem to me not much talked about, so if you guys DID ment me, I'm sorry.

I also did a post on a SPL Channel One, to which no one seems to care to reply. IS it me?:confused:

Jesus, is there such a thing as a Barbie mic? Gotta ask my five year old niece about that. What's next, the Pokemon preamp?

Pokemon pre?

Well, there used to be a G.I.Joe pre amp, but Hasbro® decided to stop production, due to negative sales results. They later came with the ActionManBuddy™, which was partly produced by M.A.S.K.-Audio, but then Matt Tracker decided to pull the plug on that one too. So much for goggles with supervision, huh?

i dunno know if this is just me, but....this kid appears to ask questions that takes forever to answer, but he never checks back....

A1A2, if this was directed at me, let me explain that I live in Europe, so with another Time-zone. I slept the last 8 hours.

Any more elaboration now on your comment? And stop calling me kid.
