Knows very little
The age old tale, someone who needs monitors but is on a budget buys some cheap "monitors" to try to save some cash. After a short period of time, they turn to shit. Im sure its happened to all of us at one point in time, and sadly it has happened to me.

Back in June I picked up a pair of Edirol MA-15D's. They seemed ok at first, then I was having problems with the bass enhancer. It was either too much or too little bass, but I learned to use them. Now I am having major set backs, they at times sound simular to what clipping sounds like, almost like static. It happens when listening to mp3's and when im trying to mix. I never even turned these things loud or anything.

Well, regardless i need some new ones. I am probably going to get the KRK rp-8's based on my research thus far. But, do any of you have opinions on something else? Im willing to spend $600 tops, and it has to be at MF because I have a 20% off coupon.

Any advice is more than welcome.

Thanks guys and/or gals:)

I preferred the M-Audio BX5as to the KRK RP-6s. At $300/pr, they're a great purchase. I will be picking them up soon.

I have not had a chance to try the 8s.

:DYo Live-rong:

I have gone through three sents of monitors; each set was, hopefully, an upgrade.

Then, I decided to go for the Adam7 "entry level" monitors. They are very good.

Since your budget does not cover a pair of them, I suggest that you buy one and buy the other later.

Or, cajole an old girlfriend to surprise you for your soon to come birthday?

The Adam A7s are active and excellent for mixing. I know one monitor isn't a stereo set-up but it might be worth some thought.

Cheers,
Green Hornet

Thanks Mr. Hornet who is green:)

Im actually planning on getting a used pair of original v8's. Hopefully it pans out, should know tommorow.

Besides, my girlfriend is not willing to drop any serious amount of dough on music equipment. I aksed for a standard tele for my birthday and got cologne haha. At least I smell good.....at times:)

I have just acquired a pair of Event ALP-5 monitors and they are truly astonishing. I've mixed a lot on KRK RP6s and have used my share of Genelecs and Mackies at other studios in my time ..... these little Events are absolutely immense. The imaging is incredible and the detail in the highs superb without being fatiguing.

Not the hugest bass extension in the world (although they are improving as I break them in) but the cabinet is tuned well and the reponse is better than the 5" speaker would have you expect. Highly recommended!

Right on- the ALP5 is GREAT for the money... I've had mine about 6 months now and have also found them sounding even better as they break in.. they were about $300/pr

Picked up a DEMO pair of Samson Rubicon 6a's for $250/pr. with shipping. They're truly excellent. I go from mixing with them and find the mixes hold up across a wide range of systems.

nice deal...

check out the Mackies, I think theyre called HR624's, I could be wrong, but great monitors

They'd done extremely well in the Future Music blind test of various monitors, and they're easily worth the $399. usual price. SamAsh.com gave me free shipping, and when they didn't go out on a Monday as planned, they upped to FedEx 2-day (at no charge). If I'd had $600. to spend, I'd have looked at the Mackie/Tannoy range, but I doubt my mixes would be turning out any better.

I got these puppies:

The Event TR8s. I've had them about 5 years now and they do the job. Plus I can crank them up to 11 when I need to. I find they're well defined. Maybe not suitable to a small room, but in a medium-sized studio room like mine they're ideal.

Might be within your budget.

I went with the ALP5s when I realised just what counts as a small room, and that my 20/20s were just too big for my room.
