Okay, I'm about to buy either a pair of dx4s or pair of msp5s.

The msp5s are $100 dollars more and is it worth it? I only need them for basic mixing not trying to get the pro sound just decent.

I'm into hiphop and have been doing "real recording" for about a month. I am using some computer speakers and headphones right now.

Do yall think the dx4s are good enough to accomplish what I need. I'm not worrying about upgrading in the future I just need something now.

I know but I dont want to go big unless it totally nessesary.

mmm...speakers

surrender to the SUB. then i don't think 4 pr 5" 's matter so much.

i was speaking with a physics major dude, into sound....speaker design.

basically, sound is air being moved.
Bass requires more-diameter (one reason) to push
the air (why 15", 12" are used etc...).... you just won't get the low freq's
from a 4 or 5.... at 6.5 we start to get there, 8" better...
but now the distance starts to play a part.... so whether one
wants to "undertsand" the physics of speakers and placement etc..
or just read a thread by Harvey Gerst and others...and find out
for yourself.

BX8's for $279 at Musicians Friend...damn this is the fourth thread i wrote ths sht??

.

we had a few Guieness Stouts and thats about all I recall.

Coolcat,

Take a look at these Daedalus SR-823 speakers, read the specs and reviews on them. These have 8 inchers for lows that do very well indeed. You should hear these things! One thing though, they are a bit pricy, but they are worth it for the quality. :) I have a set of the W-803s coming soon.

$100

yeah some of these design guys take the speakers and materials as
serious as anything. Quality stuff with a lot of work put into 'em...
the woodwork is gorgeous! of course I'd have to pull the speaker
covers to look more like studio monitors.

not many have waterfall plots and spec knowledge and our rooms ain't
perfect....so many times it comes down to $100 and our Translating.
I just sold my RAM pair of monitors for $122 Ebay..passive.

yeah the DX4's but I'd put em up closer....and get a sub somewhere,
and you'll be rockin! I think once you get a sub 4, 5, 6.5 are very similar
as everything below ~80-100hz is dropped out. just guessing from a
theory standpoint.

A lot of people look at subs as a compromise. Please consider finding a pair of Event PS or TR 6 since 5 ain't big enough. I've got PS6 and they have plenty of bass for mixing anything. I paid $275 on eBay.

Are Toa monitors considered any good? I have an older set that I don't know much about.
