I've just got myself a Tascam 388 reel-to-reel, but now I need some a pair of monitors. Since my budget is quite low I was wondering if there's monitors out there (maybe older models) that are reasonably good and can be had on ebay for low prices.
Active would be a plus.
My budget is around 150-200€ for both.

You won't find any decent actives for that money.
I got a pair of Tannoy Reveal Passives for €222,- + €8,- shipping from www.musikproduktiv.de
They're pretty ok. At least way better than the hifi speakers I used before I got them.

Event 20/20's passives a pair should run ya about 299.00 a inexpensive poweramp maybe a 100.00 or so..that would be a good start..ymmv

They sound good for mixing acoustic guitar, that's what I play. The frequency response on the resolv50a takes a dive below 70hz. I have a drum machine but I'm leaving that shit alone for a while, just working on the guitar. So like I said, good for acoustic guitar, and the price was right.

This is a tough question, most who are in the mixing business will tell you that the money is in the speakers. Listen to a few brands and pick the speakers you think you will grow familliar with. Engineers and their speakers have a special relationship :)

Thanks for all the suggestions, and jonhall, I do realize that low price speakers will probably sound like crap against a pair of expensive ones, but I'm not really after the most pristine sound possible. That's why I was wondering if there are any products, old out of production stuff perhaps, which can be had for low prices on a place like ebay.

Right, I am with you. I agree with the event 20/20's, they seem to be the standard budget monitor. If you aren't looking for too much bass then maybe try and get a small pair of used krk's. It's a good idea to check ebay.

How about the Event 20/20's with a Hafler TA1600?

About 500 bucks from 8thstreet...

The Yorkville ones are the best for the price IMO ($450 a pair or so) but thats above your budget. I really encourage you listen though and decide to save or not
