Good morning,

I can monitor volumes and faders in SX, but I cannot hear effects, equalization or plug-ins on real time, but only when I play back.

Any help would be great.

Txs,

Alejo

Are you sure? I remember I could use them in real time on Cubase VST, any time.

No... not completely sure - I don't use EQ/effects via SX during tracking....

But as far as the plugs are concerned, even if they are enabled for monitoring, you're going to have unusable latency in using them.

So let me get this straight:

Input Monitoring with FX and the whole shmere is not possible in Cubase?

That's my question: If I can monitor volumes and faders in real time via SX, why I cannot monitor FX's?

Because by design, the plug-ins operate on audio files, and not in real-time. The faders, however, DO operate in real-time.

As I said, even if they were real-time, they would introduce such latency to the track you're hearing, you couldn't monitor properly.

Thank you for your quick response, but, as I said, I remember to monitor FX's on real time on VST by just pluging a microphone and starting to play effects with my voice, choosing any effect, anytime.
By the other hand, I solved my latency problem yesterday by setting the buffer size to 128 samples, which is a reliable latency and it does not induce the nasty clicks and pops, so I think I could monitor FX's (in case I can do it) without any latency problem. If I can do it, and I get pops, I will set the buffer size to a higher one.
I think it is important to monitor effects while recording. For example, if you want to play a solo in your guitar with a delay or echo (done in SX) , it is good to monitor the frequency that delay or echo is given to adjust your tempo to the effect's one.
Again, txs a lot.

Those are 2 different latencies.........

A track that's recorded could have the plug-in latency compensated for because the plug-in can buffer the file in advance.

But in real-time recording, the plug-in doesn't have the benefit of that same buffering, and so, cannot compensate for the processing time - especially for processor intensive plugs like reverb.

I looked at the feature list of SX and it doesn't mention using plugs during recording... it mentions real-time effects, but that means you can apply the plugs to the audio file and hear the changes in real-time (ie - you move a knob, it changes the sound) so that you don't have to apply it before hearing it.

But as far as I can tell, as well as from experience, the plugs don't work on incoming audio.

Clear as water. I appreciate your help. I cannot install again the VST to prove I am wrong with monitoring Plug-ins in real time, but it would be nice. Actually all my problems came when I´ve updated to SX.
Txs again.

Direct monitoring

Cubase Sx / Devices / Device Setup / VST Multitrack - be sure that the "direct monitoring" option is activated.

The latency thing: This is a reason why I love my little recording setup. For monitoring when recording, I use my 01V Fx,dyn., eqs...
Here a description:

Mics -to- 01V -to- 01V Adat output -to- Nuendo Audiolink 96 Adat Input -to- Cubase SX -to- Nuendo Audiolink 96 Adat output -to- 01V Adat Input -to- 01V eq,fx, etc. -to- monitors/headphones.

This result in a very adequate monitoring system, 0 latency.

The 3 options I have on the VST Multitrack device setup are:

-M Delta Audio ASIO
-ASIO Multimedia Driver
-ASIO Direct Full Duplex Driver.

The first one gives me big latency and I cannot monitor nothing during recording (Plug ins and volumes)

The second one allows me to monitor volumes, stereo and faders, but not Fx´s.

...And the thrid one just gives me a big error when setting it.

I don't have Direct Monitoring option, but I cannot believe the Audiophile 2496 don't have this feature. Am I wrong?

Ups! I was obsessed with the Asio controller and didn't see the Direct Monitoring button until now, but anyway it was clicked on.

Direct monitoring

when Direct monitoring is checked, the system actually bypass all the aux sends so, you wont have any fx while recording

YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

YOU WERE RIGHT!
I CAN HEAR MY VOICE WITH REVERB!!!!!!!.
I AM IN NOTRE DAME!

Two forums, six packs of antiacids, two cartons of Marlboro per day, and you got it finally!

Man, you made my month.

Thank you so much,

Alejo.

lol your welcome dude, too bad I didnt saw this thread earlier! :)

Thanks for straightening that up Kryo.....I monitor live tracks with verb, EQ, compression and the works constantly with no noticable latency. Certain FX I don't use during live monitoring because of process intensity, but many of them I do use with no probs:)
