Monitoring problem

Hi,

I have a question about monitoring. I'm having problems with the levels of the thing that i'm recording not being loud enough to be heard over the mix thats coming back from the computer.

My mixer has a ctrl room nob that allows me to turn up and down the signal going to my monitoring headphones. The problem i'm having is that once i've recorded 2 or three tracks of instruments and trying the record a fourth, the mix that comes back from the computer containing the other three previously recorded tracks is too loud in the earphones and I can't hear the instrument im currently recording.

I have no way to turn the mix coming back from the computer down to balance with the new signal i'm recording.

Does this make any sense?

what software are you using? what mixer/interface are you using. check to see that the levels on both your software and mixer/interface aren't turned down. mess with the levels of the other tracks too, see if that does anything

How about pulling the faders back on the tracks that you've already recorded?

Hi,

Yeah I think i'm getting all confused for no good reason. I suppose it is just a case of pulling the faders back on the previously recorded tracks while i'm recording the new one.

I'm very new to this......but i've had some pleasent results already. Recorded a tune yesterday. 1 guitar, 1 electric, 1 bass, tambourine and a midi organ. Got it all together and had my first attempt at mixing.

Thanks :)
