I know a lot is emphasized on quality monitors. From my perspective as a hobby my newly employed Behringer Monitor 1C seem to be fantastic for the price of $70 CAD. They are passive so I'm using a vintage Dynaco SCA-80 amp to drive them. With my M-Audio 2496 sound card they sound very good. The sound is very clean and smooth. I'm even surprised at the low end ability. The sound card made a big difference. When I listen to CDs via computer->M-Audio->Dyanco amp->home diy speakers it sounds great.

So anybody that wants a cheap monitoring solution (must have amp for power) the Behringer Monitor 1C are very viable. Note they are not shielded. I have them 2' away from my CRT monitor with no problems.

Remember I'm talking from a hobbyist prespective. I'm not cutting commercial CDs.
cheers

I hope TravisfromFlorida does not see this. He does not like us trying to help out the budget minded monitor shopper.

Sorry, I am feeling frisky today. Only 4 more days on the night shift.
