This is probably a dumb question. I have an older Compaq laptop and am just getting into the voiceover biz. I know that I will need a new computer soon, but until then, how does one use monitor speakers with a laptop with a 1/4 inch phono jack for an output? There is no sound card with the computer, just the minimal generic sound recorder software, and I installed Audacity, but am not sure how I would be able to listen to the recorded files through some speakers. I suspect I will have to get a new sound card and do it that way, but I am unsure.

Any Help?

TIA,

Jeff K

Follow up to above

I neglected to mention that I am using an imic USB interface, so my USB port is tied up, if that helps.

Thanks again,

JK

If you have powered monitors, you use a cable with a 1/8-in stereo miniplug on one end and a pair of mono 1/4-in phone jacks on the other. Otherwise, you need to connect to the amp that's going to drive the monitors, for example to a stereo receiver with a similar cable (but with a pair of RCA plugs on the other end instead of the 1/4-in ones).

Excellent. That makes sense. Thank you very much for the reply and the assistance.
