hi, i'm new to recording and new to these forums, and i have one main question...

what monitors should i get? i need something cheap but something good. and by cheap i mean 200 dollars or less.

they don't have to be super nice or anything because i'm just learning, but i want them to at least be decent.

if this matters, im using a yamaha aw16g digital recorder.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome tyler. The AW1G is a fine machine. The search function here is your friend. Reinventing the wheel is dull. To start you off, read this one:

https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=123752

In particular read the links on the last page of that thread to the Sound on Sound magazine articles about speaker performance.

But there are plenty more - also the acoustic characeristics of the room you are monitoring in are, probably, more important than yor choice of monitor. There's lots of stuff in here about that too.

Alternatively, just get in touch with deepwater and buy the Wharfedale's for $275, you won't get anything decent for anything less, then you can just get on with making some music and bypass the entire monitor wankfest.

Lots of posts about monitors here. Just look around the board.

200$... that's not much for monitors. If you want new/decent ones, you won't have a lot of choice unless you save at least another 100$.

Check out the Yamaha MSP3 (300$) or the Wharfedales 8.2A (see the monster thread for prices/reviews).
