I currently have a pair of Tapco s-5's. I really like them...but my mixes sound too bassy on other systems. I've been cutting anything below 40 hz on my eq's which seem to help. Would I be better off to go with the S-8's which have bigger woofer or get a subwoofer to bring out the true bass. Accoustically treating my room is not much of an option right now.

As long as you know how to "work" those monitors, why mess with it. It sounds like you almost have it figured out. You can spend as much as you want on better monitors but the challenge to be able to master a mix so it sounds good on all systems will still be there

If your mixes are coming out with too much bass on other systems, it sounds like your Tapcos don't have enough bass, and you are (or were) compensating for this lack by mixing too much in.

If you have been able to judge well enough how to adjust to what the Tapcos are telling you, then, as Big Kenny says, why change?

However, it would be a lot more comfortable for you if you could rely on the monitors to give you a better representation of the bottom end. If you want to invest this degree of comfort, then go for it.

Getting a sub will help, but the danger is you can go the other way: think that the bottom end in your mix is fine, then find it lacking on other systems.
