Monitor Placement

Having a bit of a movearound in my living room so as to have my monitors in the best place in the room. Here is a diagram (please excuse its crude paintbrush drawn-ness) with dimensions.

Could anyone offer any suggestions on where the best place in my room is for this? Theres no wife or g/f to disapprove so there aren't really any limits to where it can go. Aside from the usual annoying gravity related limitations of course.
The red box is where everything is currently. Was thinking of turning it 90 degress so its against the right hand wall, however I was hoping to get some input before I have a massive shiftround and find out it doesn't work too well.

Thanking in advance :)

I think you'd get better mixes from the middle of the right hand wall or the wall at the top (where it says the 16'9")
my 2c............ :D

So the right hand wall, even though a little more enclosed, would work? Thats my ideal position for comfort (theres a hatchway into the kitchen there) so I'm happy with that. Cheers :)

Looks like it'll give you a 16 X 8 mixing area...Is that right?
Might be a skosh narrow now that I think about it. Do you have treatment up yet?
Maybe some guru's will pitch in here. :D

I guess I'm passin the buck so you don't have to fly over here and kick my ass for bogus information that caused you pain, misery and sweat from movin that stuff... :p

Just did a quick measure. The right hand wall works out to be just under 10ft. Thats the 'dining' area...(My diagam isn't amazingly to scale). Not got any treatment up. No budget for it at the moment but any suggestions for some makeshift ideas would be most welcome.

The thing I prefer about the idea of having it on the right hand wall is that I have a laminate floor, so reflections aren't too great, but in that end of the room, with sofas and some rugs etc I can avoid those reflections a little, which is what I've been doing up to this point. But my monitors dont really have any room around them where they are now. Carpet is obviously going to be my next plan.

Oh and don't worry about passin on any bogus info. You've been pretty helpful so far. Thanks dude :)

I would think 10 by 16 would be OK.
When I set up my space, I brought my monitors out ftom the wall about a foot and spaced them about 3 to 3 1/2 feet, with me being the equal distance away.

I put an Auralex gobo in a 4 ft square right behind my monitors but as a cheap way to get something up there, just about anything would help...heavy blankets, a mattress (???) something to tame the reflections. I also set up an "acoustic cloud" above my mixing spot. Then some bass traps in each corner to my right and left. Not sure about cheaper alternatives, didn't really look... :o

Hope it helps or at least gives you some food for thought.
Peace...........

I'd set up with the loudspeakers at the bottom of the drawing facing up. You should sit so your ears are about 6 feet from the bottom wall (the wall you're now facing). Left-right symmetry is very important, so you should also be centered between the side walls.
