I'm planning on upgrading to some nice near field monitors for a home studio. I'm moving house next month and thought that then would be a nice time to buy a pair of VXT6s to contribute to some scores I'm writing for some commercial advertisements I've just been commissioned to write.

The problem I face is the fact that I currently have 3 24" screens in my setup. This takes up a lot of desk space meaning that in order to sit at the sweet-spot with the monitors I'd have to sit my chair back 1.6m from my desk. Impractical.

This is my work space: (http)://snip.so/UKc2 (please excuse the cheap pioneer speakers and bad placement)

I'm happy to lose another screen if that makes placement easier but I'd rather have 3. It'd be interesting to hear what you think my options are.

Currently - and tell me if I'm wrong - it looks like you're not only in a corner, but right up against the corner.

You've got much bigger fish to fry than being 1.6m back from your speakers (which probably isn't nearly enough, unless your space is only 4m deep).

Sorry. Forgot to mention I'm moving it into a rectangular room when I'm moving house next month. Going to put this studio in a 4m by 6m rectangular room. Was thinking of placing the desk about 1m back from the short edge at one end of the room.

I'd consider myself to be more of a musician than a producer, but i'm making progress and i am definitely limited by what i've got.

2.28m from the short wall in a 6m room -- That's where your head goes.

Breaking it down into smaller chunks, that's about 7 feet. Speakers about 2' from the wall, 5' triangle intersecting at the opposing 2.28m spot behind you.

That's your nearly 'universal starting point' -- Everything gets tweaked from that. If the room is reasonably well treated in the low/broad band, it might not require any tweaking at all.
