I have several monitors to choose from for near and far fields. The largest is a mid 70's JBL 4320 big bulky but tight loaded with a 2205-15 and a 2420 comp driver with an acoustic lens the second pair is JBL's L-110 3 way box adjustable mid high controls very heavy for the size but impressive low end again from mid 70's era.Could either of these be used to get a good mix or are they to low end heavy being a live FOH guy I'm afraid I will overmix the lows out live I usually assign a bus aux to subs for the kick and bass to get tight response without flooding out the whole mix with low end. Then a new JBL 4208 or a set of unpowered event 20-20 both seem fine but do not have that warm tightness that I like so I am open for any info or suggestions about any of these mons. And of course a set of Yamaha NS-10's or a set of EV-S40's for near fields. All are powered by old Yamaha 2200 amps I have three of these air cooled around 175-225watts at 8ohm once again big bulky but no fans in the amps for nice quite running. Please do not think that my ears are burnt I have worn ear plugs since day one after 3 or so songs in they go.I'm sure that I have done some damage to them but hey live sound is live sound it's just fun sliding a kik fader thru 10-20-30 or more thousand watts of PA.
