Im building a computer desk/console desk. I was considering attaching platforms to the desk for monitors to sit on. Does anyone have input on this? Any documentation?

In general, you want reflective surfaces as far away as possible from loudspeakers. The general advice is to put speakers on stands rather than on a desk or other large surface. Equally important is being symmetrical left-right in the room, and having the speakers fire the longer way down the room. Below is a drawing that shows the ideal way to set up a listening environment in a typical rectangular room.

For some reason the drawing is not showing, so click here:
As for speaker placement, I've also read that having them either exactly at ear-level or slightly higher, angled down towards your ears gives you good control.
I completely forgot about why I would need monitor stands until I read Ethans post. I guess its time to get busy buying or building some stands. I think I also want to make a slightly smaller desk for my little studio. All of the acoustic treatment, the rack I just built, and that dang drum kit is taking up a lot of room.
The desK I just built and patterened after omnirax have the speakers about 8 inches high from the main desk and around 3ft away. I couldnt tell you why this is,there are two rack spaces under each speaker.
